My Wainwright family comes from the West Riding of Yorkshire, farming in various villages around Barnsley.
The earliest traced so far is John Wainwright of Burton Smithies, Royston
His parents are as yet unknown, although there are earlier Wainwrights of Burton Smithies mentioned in the Royston Parish registers .
The name of his wife is unknown.

Thomas was the youngest child of John Wainwright & Mary Tate. He was bpt at Wortley by Penistone on 27 May 1811.
Curiously, for both Thomas's baptism and that of his elder brother William the register spells the surname as "Waindwright"
He trained as a doctor and by 1834 had set up practice as a Surgeon in Church St Barnsley (Pigots Directory)
On 14 Jan 1834, Thomas married Ann Moser (nee Pickering) at St Mary's Barnsley.
Ann had been married twice previously -- firstly to William Bradley on 20th Nov 1826 at Darton Yorks, and then to John Moser on 28th April 1831 at Royston Yorks. Both marriages lasted approximately two years each. She had two daughters: Anne Elizabeth Bradley born 1827 and Mary Bradley born 1828 and a Bradley step-daughter, Harriet. All 3 died in childhood.
Thomas and Ann had 4 children:
John Thomas bpt 11 Jan 1836 Barnsley. Died 26 April 1837 age 15 months. Buried in family plot at Tankersley.
William George born 10 Jan 1838 Barnsley. In 1895, half-brother James was granted administration of his estate due to presumption of William's death in Manila sometime after 1867.
Mary bpt 28 Feb 1840 Barnsley. Married Michael Ignatius Giblin in 1862. 4 children. Died 1879 Milton, Glasgow.
Elizabeth bpt 21 May 1841, Died Jan 1842. Buried at Tankersley
Ann died of consumption on 5th March 1843 and is buried at Tankersley
Eight months later, on 14 Oct 1843 Thomas remarried to Matilda Trant at Scarborough Parish Church.

Dr Thomas died at the age of 59 yrs on 22nd July 1870 of Morbis Cordis Pneumonia. He was buried in the Public Cemetary, Barnsley despite there being space in the family plot at Tankersley.
In his will he appointed guardians for James & Emily. Charles Henry was left his share of the medical practice. The rest of his effects were to be sold and the money invested, the interest on which was to be used for the upkeep of James & Emily untill they came of age. James & Emily were to share the capital once they turned 21. Matilda, Ann & Edward were not mentioned at all, neither were Mary & William George the two surviving children from his first marriage.
His estate was valued at less than £1000.
Matilda moved to Birkdale nr Southport Lancashire with her younger children.
She died 13 Sept 1883 at Birkdale, nr Southport Lancashire aged 69
On her death, the bulk of her estate (net value £907/5/7 ) was left to her two daughters. Emily was left the £500 that Matilda had received as a marriage settlement. Ann was left the residue. There was also £60 left to Ann "to be used as she thought fit for the benefit of Edward's children" James was not mentioned at all, neither was Charles Henry who was still alive at the time the will was written but pre-deceased his mother.
